The Power of Printed Catalogues: A Timeless Marketing Tool

A printed catalogue is a physical book that showcases a business’s products or services. They are designed to give customers a comprehensive look at what the company offers, including product descriptions, images, prices, and order information. Catalogues have been around for decades and are used by businesses to reach customers in a personal, visual, and tangible way.

Printed Catalogues are worth more overall than their digital counterpart

Over the years, catalogues have evolved from simple black-and-white mailers to beautifully designed, full-colour printed materials that reflect a brand’s style and values.  While digital marketing has grown rapidly, printed product catalogues continue to prove their worth. Their physical presence through eye catching design and product photos, makes them more engaging and memorable than digital versions, which are often quickly deleted or forgotten in inboxes.

Why Catalogues?

Product Catalogues are functional tools that customers can hold, flip through at their own pace, dog-ear pages, and revisit as often as needed. They are often kept for weeks or months, and even years, serving as a constant reminder of a brand products and/or services. Unlike digital content, which can be overwhelming or fleeting, or deleted, printed catalogues create a deeper connection with the reader. They don’t require screens or internet access and are easier on the eyes.

Printed Catalogues lead to increased sales

Printed catalogues are particularly useful for product-based businesses like fashion, homeware, and furniture. Customers enjoy browsing through pages, marking their favourites, and sharing them with others. They help inspire purchases and often lead to increased sales, especially when well-designed and targeted.

Think of all the catalogues you have read and even kept over time: lighting catalogues, plumbing catalogues, parts catalogues, furniture catalogues, appliance catalogues, fashion catalogues, food catalogues… the list is endless and proves their immense value and worth.

What paper or finishes are typically used in printing Catalogues?

Catalogues are usually printed in full colour using a150gsm matt or gloss paper with the cover normally around a 250gsm. Due to the constant wear on the catalogue a lamination is normally applied to the outside covers. In terms of the binding there are many options to choose from; wire or spiral bound for those heavy use and thicker books so the pages lie flat or perfect bound for a square-back look and feel like that of a book.

Even in today’s digital age, the importance of printed catalogues has increased. People appreciate their simplicity, quality, and the break from screen time. As a marketing tool, catalogues offer higher engagement and recall than many digital alternatives. They combine function, beauty, and longevity – making them a powerful way for businesses to stay top-of-mind and connect meaningfully with their audience.
